Training Methodology and the cone of learning
Hi , today I am going to discuss about “Training Methodologies and the cone of learning”,
before proceeding on the training methodologies and the Cone of Learning, let’s understand the training first:
Training is an art as well as science, it is a process of imparting trainers’ skill-set to the learners’. While discussing about art, trainer must have a creative thinking skill and imagination too, if we talk about the traditional system of training or the modern training system, lot of research and modification has been done in order to develop the skill-set of a trainer. Imagining the situation and explaining them to the learner at the training delivery time is very important for a trainer and also this is a science. When a trainer is delivering a lecture inside his classroom, he needs to understand, analyze and impart his skills to the learners especially in instructor-led training, a trainer does the several scientific techniques to gain the attention of the classroom. These steps are in a systematic process on a certain educational objective.
Another important step in training is communication, a smart-art of skill imparting. If your audience is not communicating with you then the training is not going well. If we summarize the instructor led training; it is all about sharing the skill-set to the students using the training techniques.
While training a trainer uses activities and the learning objectives for enhancement of the learning to the objective is known as training methodologies, it combines techniques and activities.
In instructor-led training, lot of training methods has been evolved which includes:
Traditional Methods:
- Lecture
- Discussion
- Reading material
Modern Methods:
- Problem Solving
- Demonstration
- Simulations
Now in modern methods, we call it EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING technique, a trainer need to select appropriate method, which includes:
- Class Level
- Type of Subject
- Number of Student inside a class
- Resources available while training
- Time available
- Instructional hours per day
Lecture delivering is the oldest method being used in the industry in the whole world in different faculties. In Information and Communication Technology training, leading companies like Microsoft, Google, Adobe, Oracle etc have done a lot of research while imparting the skill in e-Learning and instructor led training. Optical Classroom and Bring your own device is getting very popular and successful method of training as the trainer is imparting practical skill-set to the student and learner is gaining the EXPERIENCE at the same moment. Instructional hours also acts a major role in this part, longer the session, better the result and the trainer needs to use the tactics and training techniques to make the session enjoyable for the audience. Cloud training is also evolving these days using the virtual instructor and creating virtual classrooms. Virtual platforms of the Google Classroom and Microsoft Skype in classroom are also popular in these.
While applying all these techniques, we have to discuss about the enhancement in learners’ skill and it depends on the training method being used inside the classroom, the type of classroom, type of audience, number of learners and their pre skill-set. If we take the help of cone of learning in the training, we can resolve our queries and can help in selecting the appropriate methodologies for the audience depending on the type and their categories.
The image above refers, in general research it has been found that after 2 weeks we only remember of 10% of reading, 20% of listening, 30% of seen, 50% of seen and hear, 70% of speaking, and 90% of what we say and do.
“doing while learning” i.e. EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING is the best practice to remember the job and activities done in the training. If we implement the training in this way, it will be the most effective for the student as well as trainers too.
At neosphere, we implement the same methodologies for the learners to impart the skill set.
Thank You
